How digital storage converter works

SI prefixes use powers of 1000; IEC binary prefixes use powers of 1024. Eight bits equal one byte.

Try an example

1 MiB = 1,048,576 bytes.

Good to know

Values use double-precision arithmetic and are rounded to 13 significant digits. Named definitions matter; choose the intended unit.
