Choosing the right operation
Start with the least destructive operation that solves the job. Page organization preserves more of the source than raster compression; compression is useful for scans but can remove selectable text; flattened redaction removes the original object layer but requires you to mark every sensitive area yourself.
Know the boundary
PDF features vary widely. Encrypted, malformed, signed, XFA and unusual documents can be rejected or lose features when copied. Keep the original, reopen the downloaded result and never treat a visual cover or metadata edit as a substitute for document security.
