What it does
Bit rates use decimal prefixes unless marked binary. This is payload rate, not an estimate of network overhead.
Worked example
100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s.
The example demonstrates the operation. For file-based tools, results depend on the selected file and options. How the result is produced
Bit rates use decimal prefixes unless marked binary. This is payload rate, not an estimate of network overhead.
Important limits
Values use double-precision arithmetic and are rounded to 13 significant digits. Named definitions matter; choose the intended unit.
Choosing the next step
Confirm whether a value is decimal or binary before converting it. In particular, storage units such as GB and GiB are not interchangeable, and fuel economy can be expressed as either distance per volume or volume per distance. The unit labels are part of the answer.
