What it does
A bounded recursive-descent parser supports + − * / % ^, parentheses, pi, e, sin/cos/tan, inverse trig, sqrt, abs, ln, log, exp, floor and ceil.
Use the scientific calculator for bounded expressions when you want common arithmetic and functions without sending an expression to a server.
How to use it
- 1
Enter a supported expression with parentheses where the order matters.
- 2
Run it and read the error message if the parser rejects an unsupported token or unsafe expression.
- 3
Check units and rounding before copying a result into a report or calculation.
Worked example
sqrt(144) + 2^3 → 20.
The example demonstrates the operation. For file-based tools, results depend on the selected file and options. How the result is produced
A bounded recursive-descent parser supports + − * / % ^, parentheses, pi, e, sin/cos/tan, inverse trig, sqrt, abs, ln, log, exp, floor and ceil.
Important limits
Trigonometric arguments are radians. % means remainder. Use explicit * multiplication. No input is evaluated as JavaScript.
Checks before sharing or relying on the result
- Supported operators and functions are listed on the page; arbitrary JavaScript is never evaluated.
- Division by zero, invalid domains and non-finite results are rejected.
- The parser is a convenience calculator, not a symbolic algebra system.
Choosing the next step
Enter values in the units and convention named by the page, then compare the displayed formula with your question. For money, change the assumptions rather than treating an estimate as an offer; for statistics, decide whether the data represents a sample or a full population.
