What it does

International inch = 0.0254 m; international foot = 0.3048 m.

Use the length converter when a measurement needs to move between metric, imperial or smaller engineering units with the unit names kept visible.

How to use it

  1. 1

Enter a value and choose the source unit.

  2. 2

Choose the destination unit and read the reciprocal conversion by changing either side.

  3. 3

Copy the result together with its unit and sensible displayed precision.

Worked example

1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres.

The example demonstrates the operation. For file-based tools, results depend on the selected file and options.

How the result is produced

International inch = 0.0254 m; international foot = 0.3048 m.

Important limits

Values use double-precision arithmetic and are rounded to 13 significant digits. Named definitions matter; choose the intended unit.

Checks before sharing or relying on the result

  • Definitions such as inch, foot and metre are fixed conversion factors; a real-world measurement still has its own uncertainty.
  • Displayed rounding is not extra accuracy.
  • For engineering, construction or safety work, confirm the governing standard and significant figures.

Choosing the next step

Confirm whether a value is decimal or binary before converting it. In particular, storage units such as GB and GiB are not interchangeable, and fuel economy can be expressed as either distance per volume or volume per distance. The unit labels are part of the answer.
