Temperature Converter: instructions, examples and limits

Convert temperature in both directions with clearly named units.

This tool is registered for local processing. Its tool input is handled in the current page; LittleKit’s product analytics do not include the input value.

What it does

K = °C + 273.15; K = (°F + 459.67) × 5/9.

Use temperature conversion when an offset matters: Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin are not simple scale multipliers.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Enter the known temperature and choose its scale.

  2. 2

    Choose the destination scale and read the converted value.

  3. 3

    Check whether your context expects an absolute temperature or a temperature difference before using it.

Worked example

0 °C = 32 °F = 273.15 K.

The example demonstrates the operation. For file-based tools, results depend on the selected file and options.

How the result is produced

K = °C + 273.15; K = (°F + 459.67) × 5/9.

Important limits

Values use double-precision arithmetic and are rounded to 13 significant digits. Named definitions matter; choose the intended unit.

Checks before sharing or relying on the result

  • Celsius and Fahrenheit require an offset as well as a scale factor; Kelvin starts at absolute zero.
  • A converted temperature difference follows a different rule from a converted absolute reading.
  • Display precision is limited to avoid implying measurement accuracy that was not supplied.

Choosing the next step

Confirm whether a value is decimal or binary before converting it. In particular, storage units such as GB and GiB are not interchangeable, and fuel economy can be expressed as either distance per volume or volume per distance. The unit labels are part of the answer.
