What it does

Decodes PNG pixels and re-encodes them as WEBP in your browser.

Worked example

Select a .png file to download a .webp result.

The example demonstrates the operation. For file-based tools, results depend on the selected file and options.

How the result is produced

Decodes PNG pixels and re-encodes them as WEBP in your browser.

Important limits

PNG preserves transparency but can be larger than JPEG or WebP. JPG, PNG, WebP and browser-decodable AVIF inputs (named converters require their stated source format); 25 MB and 24 megapixels maximum. Output is a single still frame; animation, source colour profiles and metadata are not preserved.

Choosing the next step

Use Resize when the dimensions are the problem, Compress when the bytes are the problem, and Metadata Remover when the file contains information you do not want to distribute. Format conversion is a separate choice: JPG is usually compact for photos, PNG keeps transparency, and WebP can be a useful modern compromise.
