How Visual PDF Comparison works

Renders matching page numbers from two PDFs locally and highlights visible pixel differences above a configurable tolerance.

Try an example

Compare page 4 of two report revisions to see where the rendered page changed.

Good to know

Local processing. Maximum 50 MB per input, 100 MB total, 20 files and 2,000 total pages. Encrypted or malformed PDFs are rejected. This is a visual page-by-page comparison, not semantic text analysis. It does not automatically match moved pages or detect text changes that render identically. Rendering differences from fonts or anti-aliasing may appear; the tolerance can reduce minor noise. Up to 25 MB per PDF, 50 MB combined and 100 pages per PDF.

Your privacy

Processing happens on this device for this tool. We do not upload your input, put it in share links or save it to your favourites. Closing this tab discards the working input; downloaded results remain wherever you save them.

When this tool is useful

Use visual comparison to inspect whether the same page number looks different between two PDF revisions.

How to use it

  1. Choose the original and revised PDFs and enter the page number to compare.
  2. Adjust tolerance to ignore minor anti-aliasing noise while keeping meaningful marks visible.
  3. Download the difference map when you need to annotate a review, and remember that it is a visual aid rather than a semantic diff.

Checks before you rely on the result

  • Pages are compared by number, not automatically matched when pages move.
  • Font rendering, embedded images and anti-aliasing can create visual differences that are not content changes.
  • The tool does not prove that two files are byte-for-byte or semantically equivalent.

This page is maintained with the tool implementation and its deterministic tests. If the result looks wrong, report the issue with a non-sensitive example.
