How PDF Metadata Remover works

Removes the document Info dictionary and document-level XMP metadata stream.

Try an example

Clears the standard author/title fields and document XMP.

Good to know

Local processing. Maximum 50 MB per input, 100 MB total, 20 files and 2,000 total pages. Encrypted or malformed PDFs are rejected. Does not remove visible content, attachments, annotations, all page-level data or hidden text. This is not secure redaction or complete sanitization; edits may invalidate signatures.

Your privacy

Processing happens on this device for this tool. We do not upload your input, put it in share links or save it to your favourites. Closing this tab discards the working input; downloaded results remain wherever you save them.

When this tool is useful

Use the metadata remover before sharing a PDF when common author, title, producer or document-level XMP fields should not travel with it.

How to use it

  1. Select the PDF and inspect its current metadata with the companion viewer if you need a record.
  2. Run the removal operation to create a fresh local copy.
  3. Inspect the new file and remember that visible content, attachments and page-level objects are separate from the standard Info dictionary.

Checks before you rely on the result

  • Removing common metadata is not the same as secure redaction or complete forensic sanitisation.
  • Visible names, hidden text, attachments and annotations can still contain information.
  • Changing a document can invalidate a digital signature, so preserve and verify signed originals separately.

This page is maintained with the tool implementation and its deterministic tests. If the result looks wrong, report the issue with a non-sensitive example.
